This is as a result of the fascinating, natural and beautiful features of the City. This feature doesn’t only mean things you can see, it equally includes activities, festivals, cultures, food, religious beliefs among others.
We have had so much for the introduction; let’s talk about the best things to do in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
· Visit the White Temple ( Wat Rong Khun )
You must have heard about the White Temple — also known as the Way Rong Khun — or you have watched it on TV. However, that’s not enough to know how beautiful and majestic it is. This is why you must take a trip to Chiang Rai to have a live view of the temple.
The world-class temple was built in 1997 by a well-known Thai artist. The temple contains some interesting attributes such as uncommon caged which reflect the country’s Buddhist belief.
Just as the name implies, the White temple is painted in plain white. You must enter into the temple’s gallery so as to see more information about Thailand, China, US and the world at large. Note that entering into the White Temple cost not less than 50 baht ($1.50 USD) which is relatively cheap and affordable.
·Pay a visit to Khun Korn Waterfall
Either you call it Khun Korn or Tat Mok Waterfall, you’re still referring to one thing and that’s a great Waterfall located within the boundaries of the Nam Tok Khun Korn National Forest Park. It’s the most popular and the highest waterfall in Chiang Rai. The waterfall enters into a small pool which is 230 feet below the stony/rocky ledge.
You can decide to swim in the small pool, but it must be during dry season when the water pouring into the pool isn’t with great intensity.
· Taste the Delicious Northern Thai Meal
Thailand has very delicious meals to call their own. Indeed, each state of the federation has its own cuisines with different methods of cooking. In Chiang Rai, the Citizens love eating sticky rice, Pad Thai among others. Meanwhile, there are provisions for visitors who wouldn’t get used to their cuisines. There are the egg, noodles, meat fried rice, etc. You can’t be hungry throughout your stay in Thailand.
· Buy Some Materials at the Night Market
While exploring some interesting places during the day, don’t stress yourself out because you must visit the Chiang Rai’s, Night Market. As soon as the sun begins to set, Chiang Rai traders open up their shops to partake in the Night market. This isn’t done as the normal market; rather, there are some groups of entertainers whose functions are to make the market lively.
Having bought your materials, you can decide to enjoy the show before going back to your apartment. The Night market is free; hence, you have no need to worry about the gate fee.
· Don’t hesitate to pay a visit to the Black House Museum
Just as there are some important artworks in the White Temple, Black House Museum is equally an important place to go during your visit to Thailand. The Black House was created by highly controversial artist, Thawan Duchanee, whom many people believe isn’t competent in his drawings.
Irrespective of the criticism, Black House Museum has different artworks —made from animal skins, hoof, horn, metals, etc. — capable of making you spend more than a day exploring new ideas. The gate fee is more expensive than the White Temple as its entrance fee is valued at 80 baht ($2.40 USD) entrance fee.
· Visit Other Important Temples
Apart from the White Temple, Chiang Rai has other temples that deserve your attention and time. Wat Doi Ngam Muang temple, Wat Ming Muang, Wat Phra Singh Chiang Rai, The Navel City Pillar of Chiang Rai, Wat Phra That Chom Thong, and Wat Phra Kaew are some of the Temples you must visit before ending your stay in Thailand. These temples are free of charge, meaning, you can visit them as much as you desire.
·Have a Traditional Thai massage
You must have been tired and stressed out as a result of your movement from one place to another, then, it is important you stretch your body so as to return to shape and perfect condition.
This is why you must experience a traditional Thai massage that could last for one to two hours, depending on your choice. Thai messages focus on stretching your muscles and joints, starting from your feet to your head. Once that’s done, you will rest assured you’re back to full fitness and ready to continue your excursion/ journey to discover more facts about Thailand.
To enjoy this wonderful service, you must have nothing less than $6 in your purse.
· Have a deep rest at the Chiang Rai Beach
Chiang Rai Beach offers you another level of relaxation, though, the Beach isn’t as popular as you could imagine. It contains bamboo hut with mat beside the shores of the river, while, there are restaurants alongside it coast. You don’t need to pay before entering the beach as it is open to all.
· Locate the Chiang Rai Clock Tower
Timing yourself is important during your journey, so, it’s important you visit Chiang Rai’s golden clock tower. Located at the center of a busy traffic roundabout at the Jetyod Road, you will also see another golden clock tower at Thanon Baanpa Pragarn Road. Thai artist Chalermchai Khositpipat, who created the White Temple, was the brain behind this.
