When there is a snake bite
- Note the snakes appearance ( Be ready to describe the snake to the emergency stuff)
- Don’t be nervous. Be calm and composed. ( If you are the victim’s friend reassure him/her that all will be well )
- Move away from the snake
- Do not cut the bite site
- Clean the wound and apply bandage
- Call for help
- Ask someone to move to the nearest hospital that can deliver emergency care, anti-tetanus, and anti-venom.
- Typical symptoms of a snake bite (in case you haven’t seen the snake) are ( two fang marks or puncture around the wound, tremendous pain around the wound, fever etc..)
Things to remember about snake bites
- Do not walk in long grass
- Check your shoes if left outside
- Wear a shoe if you move out ( instead of chappal )
- Wear long pants and covered shoes if walking in grass or gardening etc.
- Block off any entry points into the house ( Snakes like cold bathroom tiles to cool down )
- If you site a snake steer clear and stand still to avoid provoking the reptile
- Do not try to kill the snake if you are not a professional
- Do not attempt to suck out the venom yourself or with friends help
- Do not give the person alcohol, or caffeinated drinks or any medications yourself.
- Do not apply water or ice
- Do not move the victim too much because this can cause the venom to spread faster
- Children run the risk of serious complications because of smaller body size
- Normal primary care facilities do not have anti venom in stock. ( So do try to find out which hospital has the anti venom )
- Not every bite is life threatening..( but some are. So be careful..)
Thank you. Do Komment if you have experienced a snake bite before..
