When there is a snake bite

  1. Note the snakes appearance ( Be ready to describe the snake to the emergency stuff)

  3. Move away from the snake
  4. Do not cut the bite site
  5. Clean the wound and apply bandage
  6. Call for help
  7. Ask someone to move to the nearest hospital that can deliver emergency care, anti-tetanus, and anti-venom.
  8. Typical symptoms of a snake bite (in case you haven’t seen the snake) are ( two fang marks or puncture around the wound, tremendous pain around the wound, fever etc..)

Things to remember about snake bites

  1.  Do not walk in long grass
  2. Check your shoes if left outside
  3. Wear a shoe if you move out ( instead of chappal )
  4.  Wear long pants and covered shoes if walking in grass or gardening etc.
  5.  Block off any entry points into the house ( Snakes like cold bathroom tiles to cool down )
  6. If you site a snake steer clear and stand still to avoid provoking the reptile
  7. Do not try to kill the snake if you are not a professional
  8. Do not attempt to suck out the venom yourself or with friends help
  9. Do not give the person alcohol, or caffeinated drinks or any medications yourself.
  10. Do not apply water or ice
  11. Do not move the victim too much because this can cause the venom to spread faster
  12. Children run the risk of serious complications because of smaller body size
  13. Normal primary care facilities do not have anti venom in stock. ( So do try to find out which hospital has the anti venom )
  14. Not every bite is life threatening..( but some are. So be careful..)
