We need to understand what the hullabaloo that most travelers are making about luxury travel and travel itself, in its normal sense.
Is luxury travel the prerogative of only the rich, what about others who could use a bit common sense and prudence whilst still enjoying some of these so-called luxury aspects of traveling.
There are three areas which would entail a larger proportion of the cost of your holiday, which are the flights/transport, accommodation, and food.
If you could manage these three areas with a bit of flexibility you could enjoy some luxury and also do so at affordable costs without much ado.
Let us carefully go through a normal traveler contemplating of taking a holiday with his family or even on his own.
We could see how he or she could have luxury but still have an affordable holiday.
Flights/ Transport
There are two ways of getting a good bargain on the cost of your flight tickets.
One would be to book very early for the destination you plan to spend the holiday.
The other would be to wait for the last minute and book your tickets.
In the former, the airlines would sell the ticket at a discounted rate, because for them “a bird in hand is worth two in the bush”.
In the latter scenario, if the flight is to leave with empty seats which would be a loss for the airline, they could offer you substantially reduced rates.
To enjoy the latter you may have to be flexible with your date of leaving and another important factor would be if you are not very fussy as to where you would spend your holiday.
Keep your bags packed to leave at short notice, and if you are lucky you may be offered a Business Class ticket at the same price that an Economy Class would have been offered to you in peak season.
So being flexible could take you in luxury flying Business Class, with all its trappings of luxury to the destination that you would finally leave to.
Flexibility and a bit prudent thinking without a stereotyped mind could procure you a Business Class ticket if it is luxury that you would want on your flight.
Another factor to remember would be to book your return flight because if they took you where they need to bring you back and they cannot refuse to do so.
In this instance, you could choose when you would return so you gain an advantage.
The matter to be satisfied with glee on your face would be, you travel in a style both ways, and that is luxury that you would want for you.
Accommodation
There are many safe destinations that are luxurious and still very affordable. These may be new destinations still trying to beat the competition and get off their feet.
They may have a new hotel just having begun operations with a soft opening where you are sure to get a bargain.
Try one of those less popular destinations and their off-season rates, with less traffic coming to them, generally, hotels drop their prices substantially.
You could either try to book through a travel agent or even contact the hotels directly and negotiate room rates, depending on how many days you would plan to stay.
The longer you would propose to stay it is inevitable that they would drop their prices to ensure they take your business.
If it is off season and you are a risk-taking gambler, another option would be to fly in and look around for accommodation, because as a walk in guest you may get a top hotel at cheaper prices.
Most tourist destinations apart from the very high end have good decent hotel accommodation at very attractive prices.
One important factor to remember would be “like soap, hotel rooms cannot be sold for tomorrow”.
Most hotels try to pack their property today because they cannot sell that room again for today if they lose you because tomorrow is another day.
On that premise other than large chain hotels which would have their own corporate image to maintain, smaller hotels would offer you a room, and if you opt to stay longer you are sure to get a good bargain.
Food costs
Once you are at a location look around as there is nothing wrong in checking for prices, which you could do discreetly by walking in for a coffee and checking their food menus.
This would apprise you of the general prices prevailing in the area and also the standards that are maintained.
Some of the top hotels may have sumptuous buffets laid out on weekends and depending on their room occupations, would drop prices too.
The food in such instances could be substantially cheaper, than at other restaurants around the area.
You could dine in style and enjoy some of the best food laid out with some luxury trappings attached too, such as the ambiance and atmosphere.
Conclusion
There are ample hotels spread all around the world which have luxury trappings and are still very affordable, especially during the offseason.
Check them out and try to be as flexible as possible and move away from the stereotype thinking and you are sure to get a better holiday at better prices.
One important factor to consider would be the weather at your intended destination at the time you would land there.
Some places would have super weather whilst others could be overwhelmed with rains and floods so check this out.
Another advantage of holidaying during the perennial offseason in your country would give you more peace of mind as the crowds would be lesser than during the season.
You may need to decide on what type of holiday you would want and accordingly select the dated and the destination, and you could have a great holiday.
You could spend the same amount that you would spend during the season and have a luxury holiday like never before.
