Take a ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railways

Among the wide range of things you can do in Ooty and Connor, this is one of the coolest ones. Parting from Ooty, to ride on this toy train should be at the top of every tourist’s list. When it comes to visiting Indian Hill stations, toy train rides are one of the most exciting parts. The train will have you looking out the window every second while passing through narrow snake passages, crossing perfectly beautiful bridges, going inside very dark tunnels, and other incredible views of the whole valley. You do have to book in advance, at least it is extremely recommended. The train works from 9:15 onwards and the first-class ticket costs around INR 150 (around 2 dollars)

Go for a Trek in Hidden Valley

If what you want to get out of your trip to Coonoor is a little adventure, then your go-to activity within the endless options is to embark on a very exciting Trek through the wonderful rainforests of the town, just 15 km away from the city. The perfect place for feeling adventurous and taking killer photographs is Hidden Valley, go there for a picnic with the people accompanying you and have a great tie observing the lovely landscape. If you want to get the very best views to make sure you visit between November and February.  Pack some comfortable shoes, water, snacks in case you get hungry, and make sure you wear mosquito repellent. 

Plan a family Picnic at Sim’s Park

This park is a very famous attraction in the city, you can find it in Walker’s Hill Road and spend a relaxing afternoon there. The beautiful botanical garden has over 85 different varieties of roses (no one really knew there were even that many roses), you can also find a lot of other very interesting plants and flowers, beautifully displayed all over the place. Take in the air and smell the fragrance that mixes, not only that but you’ll have the time of your life. Have a picnic within the flowers while you admire everything this park in Coonoor has to offer.  The Park is only open between 9 am and 6 pm, and you have an entry fee that is INR 30 for adults (~50¢), INR 15 for children. If you want to take pictures you’ll have to pay an INR 50 per camera, and INR150 per video camera.

Go for a road trip to Lamb’s rock

Located in Quaint Hill Station, Lamb’s rock is one of the most beautiful attractions you’ll get to find in Coonoor. At a driving distance from the city, the rock is shaped like a Dolphin’s nose (rather than a lamb somehow), though the road where it is located is named after the bizarre shape of the rock, dolphin’s nose road. You’ll be able to experience some pretty amazing views of the whole valley, and even beyond. It is also one of the famous things to do in Coonoor and when you get there, you’ll totally understand why. So, take a road trip there and see what it has to offer, we promise you won’t be disappointed.

Take a hike at  the Law’s falls

Just 5 km outside of Coonoor, Law’s falls is the perfect spot for many activities. You can go and have a picnic, take some landscape photography, or if you are a little sportier, take a hike in this beautiful site. A series of falls are surrounded by eternally green rainforests that offer a very rich landscape and a perfect area for your kids to play in. Wear comfortable shoes and hike during the morning, the experience is extremely worth it.

Explore and taste some tea at the High Fields Tea Factory

This is a definite must for anyone who enjoys tea or chocolate, I just covered every single person on the planet. You can go through a series of tasting sessions that will make your mind go crazy with the amazing flavors. This factory is very famous for making delicious homemade chocolates, that you can taste with some freshly made tea. Not only that but you can also purchase essential oils, skin care products, and even fragrances. The factory will charge you INR 10 (~¢15) for the experience, and you can visit between 9 am and 6 pm.

Take a swim in Catherin Falls

Another beautiful series of falls to see in Coonoor, they are known to be the most scenic waterfalls in Tamil Nadu, which is one of the reasons why they should be on every tourist’s list. You can actually visualize this waterfalls from the dolphin nose and it is very easy to just grab the car and get here. The double waterfalls cascade from a great height and are surrounded by the very dense rainforests of the region. Swimming in its cold waters is something you’ll never quite get to forget. The best part? it won’t cost you a cent!

Visit and eat in Indian Bakery

Your trip wouldn’t be complete if you didn’t indulge yourself in the deliciousness the local bakery has to offer. The very famous Indian Bakery is something you just have to include in your visits. We strongly recommend you go with a big stomach and a great appetite cause you won’t be able to stop eating all the delicious things the store offers. You’ll have a lot of fun visiting this establishment, leave the diet back at home and make sure you try all the deliciously different assortments of food. It is open from 9 am to 6 pm on Disancherry road.

Dig in Coondoor’s history in Droog Fort

If you are a history passionate, Droog Fort is precisely for you. It is one of the famous outpost of Tipu Sultan, a reminder of the rich past of Coonoor. The Fort is located over 2,000 above sea level, and surrounding it you’ll be able to watch a wide variety of exotic birds. The fort is open from 6 am to 9 pm.
